Recently, hand-selected team members represented KCM Inc. at a quarterly networking seminar. This was a great chance for our promotional specialists to expand their networks and gain new leadership insights.
These are just a few of the takeaways our people brought back to the KCM Inc. office with them:
• Resist the Gravity of Familiarity: When arriving at a networking event, avoid gravitating toward people you know. You should first find someone new to whom you can introduce yourself, and if you can you should do it right away, before you get distracted. The best information is often from someone outside your contact list.
• Stop Selling and Start Listening: When you first meet a potential connection, it’s a chance to get to know them. Launching into a pitch keeps you from finding out more about your future friend.
• Keep it Real: Be genuine when meeting people. A façade may work at first, but long-term relationships will be hard to maintain.
• Practical Advice: Keep your business cards in the breast pocket of your coat, a shirt pocket, or in an outside pocket of your purse so they are easy to access and in good condition. An easy-to-reach pen and notebook will help you keep track of important information.
We put these tips to work for us and saw results right away. We’re sure you will too! Like KCM Inc. on Facebook for more networking advice.
